Alexander McQueen: savage beauty

The ‘Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty’ retrospective opened last Saturday, 14 March, in London’s Victoria & Albert Museum.

An expanding exhibition

Savage Beauty has already been staged on a smaller scale in New York. For its London outing, the show has been expanded by 66 exhibits, and a new section of the exhibition on the early work of the designer in London has been added.  This takes the total number of items of clothing and accessories on display to over 240, including items from the Isabella Blow collection and from the house of Givenchy. Film clips, installations and numerous photographs round off the exhibition.

Alexander McQueen is considered one of the most innovative fashion designers of his time and was celebrated for his extraordinary creative talent. He broke down the barriers between art and fashion and combined modern technology with traditional handicrafts. The designer took his own life in 2010.
